Zip Seal Project |
The brief for this project was set by Lakeland Ltd as part of the 2008 D&AD design Awards. It was as follows: “Design solutions for the home by discovering un-met needs in the kitchen. The kitchen can be in any type of household, whether a small single person’s apartment or a busy family home.” |
“The amount of times you accidentally tear a packet of rice, pasta, cereal when trying to open it, causing it to go everywhere?” a quote taken from Mr. Norman Davis during the initial research stages of this project. It is this question that sparked the idea for Zip Seal, an innovative new product for use in and around the kitchen. A considerable amount of the dry produce we buy today such as rice, pasta and cereals comes in sealed plastic packets. Once these have been opened the manufacturer provides, attached to the side of the packet, a sticker for the user to re-seal the packet. This works well to begin with, however typically after opening and re-sealing the packet two or three times the packet has become torn, greatly reducing its ability to hold its contents. Zip Seal provides the perfect solution to the problem of the ripped bag. In 4 simple steps your packet of rice, pasta etc can be opened, its contents poured out and then re-sealed without having to go anywhere near the packets original seals. |
